Helsinki, 16 September 2025 — The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has rolled out the third expansion of its public chemicals database, ECHA CHEM, which now integrates regulatory overviews and outcomes from key EU chemical laws.
This update makes information from various regulatory instruments more visible and easier to use, allowing stakeholders to more effectively track ongoing regulatory decisions and compliance obligations.
What’s New in ECHA CHEM
With this latest expansion, ECHA CHEM now features:
- REACH Regulation:
• Lists of restricted substances, details of restriction processes, and substances proposed or included for authorization
• Candidate lists of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs)
• Dossier/substance evaluation results - Drinking Water Directive (DWD):
• European Positive Lists (EUPL) of substances used in water systems - CLP Regulation (Classification, Labelling & Packaging):
• Harmonised classifications (Annex VI) and the classification & labelling (CLH) process - POPs Regulation (Persistent Organic Pollutants):
• Listings of substances regulated under POPs and substances proposed for inclusion
These regulatory datasets complement the existing chemical registration data and classification inventories already accessible on ECHA CHEM.
Why This Matters
ECHA emphasizes that transparency and predictability are critical for ensuring that regulatory processes function smoothly and are accessible to all parties. The integration of regulatory data in a consistent, user-friendly interface supports better stakeholder participation and compliance.
For chemical companies, importers, regulators, researchers, and safety professionals, this means:
- Easier access to authoritative regulatory status of substances
- Better insight into ongoing restrictions, authorizations, and evaluations
- Enhanced ability to monitor trends and make informed decisions
Streamlined cross-checking of compliance obligations across multiple EU laws
