ECHA has added five chemicals to the Candidate List and updated one entry on 21 Jan 2025.
Two of the newly added substances (octamethyltrisiloxane and perfluamine) are mainly used in the manufacturing of cleaning and washing products and electric and electronic, optical equipment. These substances are very persistent and very bioaccumulative.
Furthermore, O,O,O-triphenyl phosphorothioate and (C10-C13)-alkyl-(branched, unsaturated) -2,5-dioxopyrrolidin-1-yl] hexanoic acid are used in the lubricants and greases, and metalworking fluids. They are very persistent, very bioaccumulative and toxic for reproduction respectively.
Tris(4-nonylphenyl, branched and linear) phosphite is updated to report that it is an endocrine disrupter to the environment both due to its intrinsic properties and when it contains ≥ 0.1% w/w of 4-nonylphenol, branched and linear (4-NP).
The inclusion of a substance in the candidate list of substances of very high concern (SVHC) means that now certain legal requirements need to be fulfilled by the producer, supplier, and importer of a product containing such a chemical.
Importers and producers are obliged to notify ECHA if their article contains Candidate list substance within six months of its inclusion into the list. In addition to that Suppliers must provide their customers directions on the use of the product if it has a candidate list substance above 0.1% concentration.
