Responsible Care® (RC) is the global chemical industry’s voluntary initiative to drive continuous improvement in safe chemicals management and achieve excellence in Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S) performance. Responsible Care was first adopted as a new model for the management of chemicals by Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) in 1985 and has since been adopted by chemical associations and their members under the aegis of The International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) in over 70 economies. Pakistan Chemical Manufacturers Association (PCMA), an apex industry body representing the chemical industry in Pakistan. PCMA is a nodal body pursuing the “Responsible Care Programme” in Pakistan, a global initiative through the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA).
Process of attaining RC 14001 Certification
Pakistan Chemical Manufacturers Association (PCMA) is the sole authority in Pakistan who can permit the chemical industry to use Responsible Care logo. Authorization of RC logo & RC 14001 certification can be acquired through the process as follows: –
1. Become member of Pakistan Chemical Manufacturers Association (PCMA)
2. Sign CEO declaration of support for the Responsible Care
3. Evaluate your company in the light of RC codes
RC Codes:
. Process Saftey code
. Pollution Prevention Code
. Product Stewardship Code
. Employees Health/Saftey Code
. Emergency Response Code
. Security Code
4. Submit Performance Matters
5. RC committee will decide if the company is eligible for RC logo authorization
After attaining RC logo authorization, the company required to be audited by an RC auditor for RC 14001 certification.
